Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW) today Thousands attend night-long prayers at Hazratbal MIR MUZAMIL SHAFI Srinagar, Jan 3: Eid-e-Milad, the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), will be observed Sunday across Jammu and Kashmir with full religious fervor. The largest congregational prayers will be held at Hazratbal shrine in Srinagar where the holy relic of Prophet (SAW) would be displayed while major religious gatherings would also be held in various shrines and masjids across the State. Amid chilling cold, hundreds of people thronged Hazratbal shrine for nightlong prayers to have the look of the holy relic after pre-dawn prayers. “No matter how cold it is, I have to reach Hazratbal,” said elderly Ghulam Ahmed Khan of Pampore. Besides Hazratbal, major congregations will also be held at Asar-e-ShariefKalashpora, Lal Bazar, Khanqah-e-Maula, ZiaratHazratDastgeerSahab (RA), Syed YaqoobSahab (RA) Sonwar, Khawaja NaqshbandSahab (RA) and ZiaratMakhdoom Sahib (RA). All the shrines have been decorated to mark the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Milad processions will also be taken out across J&K. The Waqf Board has made elaborate arrangements for the devotees. The traffic department has also made special arrangements to ferry the devotees to and from LalChowk. Talking to Greater Kashmir, Vice-Chairman Waqf Board, M Y Qadri said that all the necessary arrangements have been put in place for the devotees. “As far as the night long prayers are concerned, the heating arrangements inside the shrine are perfectly alright. Outside, we have managed heaters and other heating facilities for the people, who would participate for the night stay,” he said. For Sunday, Qadri said special heating arrangements have been made for ladies as well. “In the lawns, we decided not to erect tents as that would not allow the devotes to have a glimpse of holy relic,” he said. “The afternoon prayers (Zuhr) will be offered at 2 pm on Sunday and at 2:20 pm holy relic will be displayed for the devotees. Similarly, after Asr, Magrhib and Eisha prayers, the holy relic will be displayed as well,” Qadri said. He said during the meetings held with the various departments like PDD, PHE and Transport, all the possible steps have been taken to ensure devotees reach the shrine without any difficulty. “Traffic police has devised a plan for ensuring smooth travel of devotes from LalChowk to Hazratbal and back. I hope people would have no complaint,” Qadri said. “SRTC buses will be used to ferry devotes,” he informed. Governor N N Vohra greeted the people of State on the auspicious occasion and expressed hope that this auspicious occasion would be the harbinger of harmony, peace, progress and prosperity in the State. In a message of greetings, the Governor said that Islam teaches the values of brotherhood, simplicity, compassion and morality, all of which need to be vigorously inculcated in today’s trouble torn world. National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah and party’s working president Omar Abdullah also greeted the people on Eid-i-Milad. In a statement, the leaders described Islam as the religion of peace and Prophet Muhammad (SAW) an embodiment of love, equality and brotherhood. “Teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) are way towards the right path for all humans,” he said. Meanwhile, party leaders Sheikh Nazir Ahmed, Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal and general secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar have also felicitated the entire Muslim Ummah on this holy occasion. Chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) also conveyed his greetings to the people of Kashmir on the occasion. According to a statement, Mirwaiz also sent greetings to the leaders of Islamic countries, Islamic organisations and the entire Muslim Ummah. In his message, the Mirwaiz said that the Holy Prophet (SAW) was the example for all Muslims to follow. “People of JK must emulate the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to strengthen unity and harmony among themselves,” he said.
