Eighteen areas in the Visayas and Mindanao — including Leyte, which was severely hit by super typhoon Yolanda last November — were placed under Signal Number 2 as Tropical Storm Basyang (international name Kajiki) continued to intensify Friday afternoon, state weather forecasters said. In its 5 p.m. update, PAGASA said Basyang was spotted 201 km east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte and is expected to make landfall over Southern Leyte - Surigao del Norte area late Friday or early Saturday. The storm is predicted to be near Naga City, Cebu, moving northwest by Saturday, and may either stay near Puerto Princesa or exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Monday.
