El Salvador and the Solomon Islands Establish Diplomatic Relations Wednesday, July 24, 2013, articles, netorivas Netorivas We read on the website of Foreign Affairs to the Government of the Republic and the Government of Solomon Islands signed this July 22, the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The agreement was signed by Ambassador and Permanent Representative of El Salvador to the United Nations, Carlos Enrique García González, and his Solomon Islands counterpart, Collin D. Beck. Both officials shaped in a joint statement the desire to promote and strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between their nations and peoples on the basis of equality, mutual respect for sovereignty, respect and promotion of international peace and security, independence and territorial integrity and non-interference in the internal affairs of States. The statement did not say whether the two nations credited diplomatic missions in the country. The signing of the establishment of diplomatic relations was held in New York City, United States, and is based on the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter, the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations 1961 and the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 1963. image The Solomon Islands is an independent island nation located in Oceania, in traditional Melanesia. It is part of the British Commonwealth of Nations. Its territory consists of 990 islands spread over two archipelagos: the homonymous archipelago, southeast of Papua New Guinea, and the islands of Santa Cruz, located north of Vanuatu. The capital is Honiara and way of constitutional monarchy. It declared independence from the United Kingdom on July 7, 1978. It has an area of 28,450 km2 and an official population of 552 000 inhabitants.
