El Salvador blog - Monday, Day 3 Our first day of work was busy and blessed. A group headed to El Refugio to do our first day of VBS while Jen and some of the men went to order construction supplies for the church. We began VBS with just playing and getting to know the kids. Some of the women of the village organized a softball game. They used leaves and baggies for bases and then picked teams. Tom Gillen was quite the softball player as well all found out as was Papa Henry (Litteral). We played duck, duck goose (pato, pato, ganso), tag, and many other games. Our bible story for the day was El Hijo Prodigo (The Prodigal Son). The kids all listened well. They colored a craft to go with the story and enjoyed a snack. There were 100-150 kids in attendance. We were all exhausted by the end of the day, but even as we were leaving they had another softball game going! While all of this was taking place, the men went to order paint, tile, bricks, and electrical supplies for the church. It took a while for everything to arrive but once it did the men of the village and the men and women on this trip quickly got things accomplished. The walls in the church have already been painted. Before finishing for the day we unloaded a truck full of tile for the floor and 550 bricks to raise the ceiling in the back of the church. We’re looking forward to seeing what else we can get accomplished this week by the grace of God and seeing the transformation that takes place at the church. Jessica & Aaron
