El Salvador blog - Saturday, Day 1 We finally made it to the hotel after a long day’s journey. Our day started by meeting at the airport at 5:15 EST, even though most of us were up at 3am, getting little sleep, in order to prepare for our trip. Surprisingly, the airport was very busy. But, we made it safely and on time with few problems. For some of us this was our first flight, and in true American Fashion, we pretended take off and landing was a roller coaster. Stepping out of the airport in El Salvador, we were hit with a brick wall of heat. Then began the long process of loading at least 44 suit cases on the bus. However, we had plenty of help from the kind people of El Salvador. As we made the so called “hour and a half” trip to the hotel, we stopped numerous times to retie some excited suitcases. One of our group members even caught a bag as it slipped off the roof! Driving here proves to be entertaining as you watch how the El Salvadorians rode in the other cars! Our day ended with a trip to the super market to buy supplies for the week as well as a fabulous meal of Papusas and the best home made juice made with local fruit.
