El Salvador blog - Sunday, Day 2 Once upon a time in a land far far away, there was a group of 23 Americans in El Salvador. We went to church, at La Voz de Dios, where we worshipped with more than 60 fellow believers. Even though we couldn’t understand everything that was said, we could feel the Spirit of God. Their songs of praise were filled with power, putting most American churches to shame. Not only were the singers full of power, but the congregation was just as Spirit-filled. All the believers we worshipped with walked to church carrying their own chairs or pews. As they poured into the church they knelt at the altar beginning their worship with prayer, no matter if they were late or on time. After church, in true Baptist fashion, we went to lunch where we ate fried chicken! The restaurant is called “Pollo Campero,” meaning “Cowboy Chicken.” The food was great and after lunch we had ice cream! After lunch, we went back to the hotel to change and go to the Mayan Ruins. There was an awesome armed guard that was enjoying the American paparazzi, mostly the ladies! Hahaha We climbed to the top and did “O-H-I-O.” (Pictures will come later.) Although we, the writers, are not History buffs we found the Mayan Ruins to be very fascinating. Sunday was very busy, in case you didn’t get that impression yet! After we returned to the hotel and had dinner, we had our first team devotion. Krysten Chadwick lead the devotion from the book of Job. It was great, she did a great job! AND THEN, a storm came a brewing! Literally! We were singing and a deafening crash of thunder came the ALL the lights went out and the place was completely dark! But, we persevered, with God’s help! We continued to sing several songs in the dark and ended with our favorite song, “It Is Well.” The work had to continue, so we refocused and sorted all 24 ministry suitcases in the dark using our flashlights. It was exhausting but rewarding because we worked together as a team to help others. Then we crashed. (Power came on early morning, for those of you that were worried) Kari & Brooke
