Elaine Villena, Lina Shaffer, Marilou Padilla Gallardo, Ernesto Gallardo, Lesley Gallardo, Erik Gallardo --- I would like to share my two cents and response to my cousin Elaine re CNN and PNoy ---- Hi sweetheart, my personal reaction to this issue is really just based on a news clip of a local media. I have not seen the “utterances” or coverage of Anderson Cooper and have only seen a portion of PNoy’s interview with CNN. Anyway that being said, I don’t think it is fair that onlookers put all the blame on PNoy. Firstly, in all fairness to the President days before Yolanda’s landfall he asked the LGUs to be prepared. And honestly I don’t think that the local government unit of Tacloban knows how to be prepared for a storm surge. Well the local chief executive can argue with my statement but knowing that he himself and his family stayed in their home only means one thing they did not have a 360 degrees grasp of what a storm surge is. Secondly response delay can be a factor of (1) system interruption, (2) geographic consideration, and (3) logistics inadequacy. Usually national government sends aid by bulk and LGUs repack however in this situation there were no LGUs to do the segregation. Also Philippines is an archipelago so we have to understand that granting repacking is done in Manila it takes a minimum of 48 hours to get to Leyte and Samar. And logistics wise we have to remember that Philippines is not Japan or the US, our national government only has 3 or 4 C130s. I also would like to note that the blog of getrealphilippines did not take Christiane Amanpour’s statement and manner of questioning right. She used the word “could define” your administration which I think was not judgemental. In this context I remember what St Augustine of Hippo said “audi partem alteram” or “hear the other side” not with judgement but with objectivity. Kisses and love to you, Mama, Auntie, Uncle and Ron.
