Eldama Ravine Tree Planting Residents of Baringo have been called upon to make tree planting a continuous activity so that the county can realize the globally recommended 10% forest cover. Speaking yesterday during a tree planting in Eldama Ravine Town, Deputy Governor Eng. Mathew Tuitoek said that tree planting ceremonies should be taken as miles stones in an exercise that goes on whenever there are rains. He added that the planted trees will go a long way in improving the beauty of the town especially if they grow well and create a boulevard in years to come. While urging Baringo people to make tree planting a norm, Eng. Tuitoek expressed County Government’s commitment to conservation of the environment through awareness creation, extension services, training and by involving Universities, institutions and the entire community in promoting nature’s welfare. Speaking during the same function, the CEC in charge of Environment and Natural Resources Caroline Lentupuru noted that trees are a vast reservoir of genetic resources and bio-diversity which provide important habitats for all wildlife especially threatened and endangered forest species. She added that indigenous trees guarantee supplies of non-wood products such as pharmaceuticals which have enormous export potential.
