Elderly man struck and killed I-459 construction worker in morning hit-and-run The Jefferson County Coroners Office identified the victim as Randy Keith Berry, 59, of Cullman. Berry was hit and killed about 3:40 a.m. Friday near mile marker 11, between Alabama 150 and U.S. 31. The area is a construction zone, where an Alabama Department of Transportation paving project under way. Authorities said Berry was standing in the northbound center lane holding a nuclear density gauge when a sedan driven by an 84-year-old man crossed through the orange cones and barrels and struck Berry. The motorist, whose windshield was shattered, then got back into his lane and continued northbound on his way to work. Hoover police later located the man somewhere on Lorna Road near his office. Berry was pronounced dead on the scene at 3:51 a.m., coroners officials said. The crash remains under investigation.
