Election and installation of Mayors/Deputy Mayors for Civic Year April, 2014 to October, 2016 Lusaka, 19/03/2014.....Ministry of Local government and housing has directed all councils in the Country to hold elections of Mayors /Deputy Mayors and council Chairpersons starting from Tuesday 1st April 2014 to Saturday 4th 2014. This is according to a press statement issued by Local Government Permanent Secretary, Rev. Howard Sikwela and posted on the Ministry of Local Government website. Rev. Sikwela said the elections of the mayor and deputy mayor were in pursuant to the Local Government Act Cap 281 of the laws of Zambia as amended by the local government (Amendment) Act. No.6 of 2010. The elected officials will serve for the ensuring civic year April, 2014 to October, 2016. Rev. Sikwela said the two and half years tenure of office for the current Mayor/Deputy Mayors and Council Chairpersons/Vice Council Chairperson which commenced in October 2011 ends in this month March, 2014. The Permanent Secretary also stated that the installation ceremonies of Mayors and Deputy Mayors are expected to take place from Tuesday 8th April, 2014 to Saturday 12th April 2014 respectively.
