Elections generated quick but huge income for a lot of Maldivians, which increased their disposable income. This includes the money pocketed for votes, thrive in industries such as catering, sellers of general merchandise, printing services and transportation services. Their purchasing power is so high that they fail to recognise that prices are rapidly rising. But in a few days, when business is as usual, we would realise that we cannot afford to live like this. From April 2014, GST will be levied on all Telecom services (which is already expensive and doesnt give value for money). This discourages people from using internet, limiting new knowledge being accessible to all. Can we afford it? What would our newly elected MPs do about this? What should you and I do?
