#ElectionsMW: The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) leadership has organized workshops to sensitize broadcasters on the need to exercise caution during the campaign period ahead of the May 20 polls. The development follows claims by President Joyce Banda that some radio stations are promoting hate speech in the run up to the general elections. Speaking to Capital FM, MACRA Communication Manager, Clara Mulonya said such meeting help radio stations’ owners to fully understand how they are supposed to adhere to their broadcasting license terms and conditions during the general elections. Apart from the meetings, Mulonya further said they also send periodic reports to such stations and advise them to avoid such conduct or face stern action. Meanwhile, the Media Council of Malawi leadership is also scheduled to meet managers of various radio stations to map the way forward on the issue.
