Electric companies preparing for possible power outages CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – If you’re a WMECo customer, you probably received a message from them already, warning you about this storm. With a big snowstorm like this, one of the biggest concerns is all the snow weighing down the tree branches and power lines. If the tree branches give into the weight of the snow, they could bring down the power lines with them, and that causes widespread power outages. Companies like WMECo and National Grid monitor their power lines year round, and trim the tree branches as necessary, but during a powerful storm like this, they are telling their customers it’s always better to be prepared.
