“Electricity: The Future” By Savoy “Kapow!” Howe (A trans person, Tinkerbell, stands under an umbrella in an intense rainstorm.) “Thunder and lightning storms have been around since the beginning of time. Since the beginning of the universe. (Sound of thunder) Thunder and lightning storms can be frightening. But they may also be the reason that life exists here on Earth. The intense heat of lightning causes oxygen and nitrogen gases in the air to combine together to form nitrate. Supposedly, nitrate was food for some of the first tiny forms of life here on earth. You can measure how far away a storm is by counting the seconds between the flash of lightning and the sound of thunder. Dividing the number of seconds by three will tell you in kilometers how far away or how close the storm is. (Sound of thunder) Coming out spiritually is crucial for spiritual development. Spirituality is medicine for our soul. It offers an alternative to self-hatred. When soul issues are ignored addictions set in. Addictions rob us of our freedom. They substitute themselves for the real experience of spirit. Mother GOD, Trans GOD, Father GOD, it’s Tinkerbell here. I thank you for this day. I pray I serve you well. (Flash of lightning) How is it that one of the most universally rejected and despised groups in the world has been so responsible for bringing so much beauty into this world? The word “dyke” originally stood for balance stemming from the name of a Greek goddess. The word also meant “the way, or the path.” The word “fag” is based on the word for ‘bundle of sticks’. Spirituality is electric. Human life depends on electricity. Issues of gender are deeply spiritual issues. Lightning is one of Nature’s most dramatic demonstrations of electricity. In 1752 a fellow named Benjamin Franklin tied a metal key to the tail of a kite. He then attached the kite to a metal spike in the ground and let the kite fly high during a thunderstorm. And whenever lightning struck the key, a spark would jump from the spike on the ground. It showed that electricity could flow from one point to another. Anything that electricity can flow through like metal or water is called a conductor. The watery solution of chemicals within our watery tissue makes us moderately good conductors. Conduits are the passageway through which others can access the divine. (Sound of thunder) The queer spirit is a young spirit. That’s why the world needs us. We never die. We are the Peter Pans of the world, the irrepressible ones who believe in magic. We need to reclaim our spiritual leadership. Mother GOD, Trans GOD, Father GOD, it’s Tinkerbell here. I thank you for this day. I pray I serve you well. One can become electricity’s path to the ground if one is touching water that is in contact with the ground. So during lightning and thunderstorms, don’t venture outside, unless absolutely necessary. And don’t use metal objects like fishing poles or golf clubs or (Tinkerbell looks at the umbrella handle) unless….absolutely....necessary. The power of a lightning flash is equivalent to 100 million volts, which is enough to light a small town, for several weeks. The odds of being struck by lightning are 606,944 to one, according to the Canadian Farmers Almanac. (Flash of lightning) (Tinkerbell walks over to a pail of water.) Symptoms of inner peace are…a loss of interest in conflict; a loss of interest in judging self and judging other people; a tendency to act spontaneously rather than on fears based on past experience. Bolts are attracted to objects offering little resistance. Queers are lightning rods. We force the world to look at things it usually doesn’t look at. Every second, tiny electric signals spread through our heart muscles, triggering and coordinating our heartbeat. People can survive being hit by lightning provided that it misses the heart. (She steps into the pail of water.) Myth: People struck by lightning carry an electrical charge and should not be touched. Fact: Lightning strike victims carry an electrical charge and should be attended to immediately. (Tinkerbell raises arms to the sky.) When a man is feminine and a woman masculine… (Sound of thunder) As non-warlike men and non-domestic women, we are seeking new outlets for our energies – different occupations, new activities. Our responsibilities as third gender people are to discover, develop and manage the frontiers between the seen and the unseen, between the known and the unknown. We bridge the male and the female worlds, we walk between the worlds of matter and spirit. (Sound of thunder) I see a wave gathering momentum, I see it sweeping across this country, across this world. A wave of lavender light, a wave of beauty, a wave of creativity, of courage, of truth, a wave of compassion, generosity, freedom, of Spirit – a gay wave, a queer wave. As queer people engage in a conscious process of reinventing ways of expressing our spirituality that are congruent with who we are, an awareness of the need to bring back a sense of celebration into spirituality is important. (Flash of lightning) Mother GOD, Trans GOD, Father GOD, it’s Tinkerbell here. I thank you for this day. I pray I serve you well. Mother God, open my heart, open my heart so that I may receive the beauty set out before me. Zap open my heart so that I may feel their soft brown hair, their witty wiles, their constant touch, their beautiful children. So that I may trade in the knot in my belly for an open heart at whatever cost. (Sound of thunder) Negative to Positive. Attraction. Magnetism. Grounding. Current. Flow. As the forces of freedom and oppression, of love and fear continue to polarize the world, we must each choose who we are and how we want to be. When a man is feminine and a woman masculine, a person touches the total range of the human experience. When the two become one, then we will enter the kingdom. (Flash of lightning) Other signs of inner peace…an unmistakable ability to enjoy each moment; a loss of the ability to worry; frequent attacks of smiling.
