Electronic Infringement Notice Trial Underway The Northern - TopicsExpress

Electronic Infringement Notice Trial Underway The Northern Territory Police Traffic and Operations Support Command has commenced a trial of electronic infringement notices this morning in and around the Darwin area. Anyone committing traffic offences can expect to be pulled over and fined as usual but their details will be submitted electronically from the scene, as opposed to a paper infringement notice being issued. The auto-generated fine will then follow in the post. The Police Officers will continue to carry their Infringement Notice pads and an ‘on the spot’ hard copy fine can still be issued if the recipient requests it or if the recipient cannot provide a suitable address. Commander David Proctor of the Northern Traffic and Operations Command said this new system is a two week trial with the intention of minimising data input requirements and improving accuracy of data. “Not only will this process eliminate the need for manual data input of the hand written fines, but it will improve accuracy. “The new iPad systems can auto-populate with the fine recipients details based on licence number or vehicle registration, saving time. “The information is then automatically submitted with minimal human error such as spelling errors or challenging hand writing. “Overall, fine processing will be far more efficient,” Commander Proctor said. Offences such as speeding, failing to wear seatbelts, talking on mobile phones and no registration could all be issued with these electronic infringements as part of this trial period.
