Electronic filing systems are getting better. In the last few - TopicsExpress

Electronic filing systems are getting better. In the last few weeks I have been making better use of the electronic filing systems that are available in Kansas and Missouri. Just two years ago the options were limited to physically delivering documents to court houses (either in person or by mailing it in to the clerks office) and to FAX filing, which has its own problems. With e-filing I just scan a copy of the document I want to file, log on to the system and file it. I dont leave my office, and thats good. E-filing systems are restricted to attorneys, and in Missouri, if e-filing is available, attorneys are required to use it. Implementation of electronic filing has progressed considerably in the last two years so that now almost half of the counties in Missouri offer e-filing, and in the next few years most of the state should have the systems in place. Kansas has not done as well, but e-filing is available in most of the population centers, like around Kansas City, Topeka, and Wichita. Johnson County has its own system and is not available on the statewide program, but it has a older system in place, and the highest volume, so I can see how the transition might be slower. Hopefully it will all come together in the next few years. This is good news because it saves my clients money! Lets all be happy about that.
