Eleven participant names of Democratic Party presidential convention have been made public in an event attended by leaders of political parties in Grand Sahid Jaya Hotel in Jakarta, on Sunday. “We are inviting the chairpersons of colleague political parties,” said Democratic Party convention spokesperson, Hinca Panjaitan, in Jakarta on Sunday, as quoted by kompas. He said inviting chairpersons of other political parties to attend the event was part of political ethics. Moreover, by inviting other political parties, it was hoped that they would be inspired to hold presidential conventions like the one the Democratic Party would soon hold. “We hope that what we have done will be followed by other political parties. So, not only party cadres but all people in this country can have a chance to run for the president,” said Hinca. The introduction of the convention participants is set to begin with a press conference at 3 p.m. today. The convention participants will introduce themselves to the public at 7 p.m. The 11 participants will take turns making a five minute oration to convey their vision to the public. The participants are Ali Masykur Musa (a member of Supreme Audit Agency); Anies Baswedan (University of Paramadina rector); Dahlan Iskan (State-Owned Enterprises Minister); Dino Patti Djalal (Indonesian Ambassador to the US); Endriartono Sutarto (former Indonesian Military commander); Gita Wirjawan (Trade Minister); Irman Gusman (Regional Representatives Council speaker); Hayono Isman (a member of Commission I at the House of Representatives from Democratic Party faction); Marzuki Alie (House speaker); Pramono Edhie Wibowo (former Army chief); and Sinyo Harry Sarundajang (North Sulawesi governor).
