Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, . . . James 5:17 WOW! Did you see that? Read James 5:17 again - did you see it? Elijah was an incredible prophet of God! Can you imagine? James 5:17 tells us that Elijah prayed for it not to rain and it did not rain! Then Elijah prayed for it to rain and the heavens opened up and the rains replenished the earth and produced fruitful crops. Wow! Thats incredible! But that is not what I was asking you to see. Have you figured it out? Read James 5:17 again - did you catch it? Thats right Elijah was a man JUST LIKE US. What?! Are you kidding me? There is no way! Elijah could not have been like me. I get mad in traffic. I worry about my kids. I get depressed at times. I have thoughts of anger, lust, revenge and fear. I struggle to understand God. I fail to pray and read my Bible as much as I should. There is no way that this man who seemed to have the ability to manipulate the heavens like a water spicket was anything like me. As hard as it is for us to understand, it is true - Elijah was just like us. He was human, fallen, sinful. He was just a man, a vessel, a channel through which God worked to show Gods power. Dont be amazed with Elijah, be amazed with his God. Be amazed that God is loving enough to not just manipulate man, but to make purposeful use of him. Be in awe that God is caring enough to not just do His work around us, but to also do His work through us. Be encouraged today. The great prophets of God were Just like us and God wants to do through us what He did through them. Lets allow Him control. Lets let Him do what only He can do. Its none about us - its ALL about Him.
