Eliza was transferred back to the bone marrow transplant floor - TopicsExpress

Eliza was transferred back to the bone marrow transplant floor yesterday evening. We slept a bit better in our new room! Its much quieter (and darker) here. Today Eliza has remained fever free, but her oxygenation has dropped a bit again, and she is intermittently requiring oxygen support. We did a repeat chest Xray, and it is looking worse. They now think it looks more like a bacterial or fungal pneumonia rather than viral. If it is bacterial, it is most likely a resistant strand since she has not responded well to antibiotics. The only way to know for sure is to repeat the bronchoscopy. We are looking at repeating it on Monday, and possibly adding a scope since she will already be under anesthesia. Eliza now has Respiratory Therapists come and thump her back for 15 minutes or so, trying to break loose the junk in her lungs. She tolerates it well, but since she doesnt have a cough it probably isnt helping. This evening we will try doing a bi-pap treatment to see if it can open her lungs up a bit more. She will probably hate it, so not sure itll do much, but worth a shot.
