Elizabeth Liz Ann Hagerty, died at the home of her parents, Jerome F. and Janet E. Hagerty on January 11, 2015. She was born on October 17, 1974, in Steubenville, OH. Elizabeth graduated from Steubenville Catholic Central High School in 1993. She earned her undergraduate degree as well as a Masters degree in education at the Franciscan University of Steubenville in 2000. Elizabeth was working toward earning her Ph.D. at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, PA. Her educational pathway led her to study in Israel, Mexico, Spain and Italy. Elizabeth was a retired high school teacher. Over the years she taught at Steubenville Catholic Central, Indian Creek High School, Buckeye Local High School, Eastern Gateway Community College and the Franciscan University of Steubenville. Elizabeth was a dedicated, enthusiastic English and Spanish teacher. She was heavily involved with her students as a faculty advisor for the Key Club, and she remained in contact with many of her former students after she retired. She was a member of the Ohio Education Association / National Education Association and a former member of ADK, a womens professional sorority. In addition, Elizabeth served on the board of directors for the A.L.I.V.E Shelter for more than 15 years. She served as the secretary for the Indian Creek Education Association and most recently, Elizabeth was an active member of The Fishers Council, a local community service organization. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her sister, Elaine F. Hagerty. She is survived by her parents, Jerome F. and Janet E. Hagerty, her two brothers, Jerome R. (Debbie) Hagerty and Sean G. (Tami) Hagerty as well as her two sisters, Dr. Mary G. (Andrew) Mihalyo and Kathleen (Ernest) Cantu. She is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews, one great-niece and one great-nephew. Calling hours are Tuesday 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, Steubenville. A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Fr. Thomas Nau, celebrant. There will be a vigil service at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday. Burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to The Fishers Council, 150 N. Third Street, 546, Steubenville, OH 43952.
