Ellen spotted an article in the NY Times about a company offering food tours of European cities, including Prague, and signed us up. It was four-hour walk around the old town, with lots of well-informed general history from a Czech guide along with well-chosen food stops. We saw a Staropramen truck pumping beer straight into a tavern tank. Tanker beer is considered the freshest and best, though only high-volume places offer it. No piddly 15-gallon kegs needed at such places. On the tour we had apple strudel; open-faced sandwiches; the work of a custom butcher; sauerkraut soup; craft beer; roast beef and dumplings; cream-stuffed wafers with chocolate, and maybe a little heartburn.
