Elsewhere on Facebook, the question was asked as to why the Asbury Park 5k and the Belmar Chase 5K are scheduled on the same day. I answered as follows. Any thoughts on this? The Belmar Chase is the newer event. JSRC has held the Asbury Park 5K event on the second Saturday in August for years. Anyone looking to organize a new race in the area would be aware of this. If runners are upset about the conflict, I would suggest they take it up with the organizers of the Belmar Chase, an event clearly designed to compete for the Asbury 5K runners. That information is below. Notice: THE BELMAR CHASE IS OPERATED BY A FOR-PROFIT EVENTS COMPANY. The Asbury Park 5K (and all the Jersey Shore Golden Grand Prix races) are operated by LOCAL RUNNING CLUBS to benefit the community. Take up your complaint with Mark Wetmore, president of Global Athletics & Marketing, Inc., the for-profit events firm that operates the Belmar Chase. His contact info is as follows: Global Athletics & Marketing, Inc. Mark Wetmore 437 Boylston St Suite 404 Boston, MA 02116 Office Number +1 877 849 8722 Fax Number +1 617 249 0431 Email mark@globalathletics Company Website globalathletics Given a choice, I would want my race fee dollar to be 100% dedicated to my community, not to lining the pockets of some out-of-state fat cat events marketing company. Someone on that thread actually had the nerve to state, JSRC believes they are the only ones allowed to host and profit from a road race anywhere near the jersey shore. To which I replied, JSRC DOES NOT PROFIT FROM ITS RACES. JSRC is operated by volunteers and is a not-for-profit organization. I felt compelled to set that person straight!
