Elusive snow leopards spotted in Qinghai Few animals carry the mystique and enigma of the #snowleopard. And few are as endangered. So #zoologists in #China were probably surprised to find a relatively high-density snow #leopard habitat in western China’s Qinghai Province. The habitat was discovered after reports emerged of animal attacks against local livestock late last year. A following field investigation revealed a number of the animals living in the area. The habitat, which is less than 40 square kilometers wide and sits near the Yangtze River, was found to have the highest density of snow leopards in the country. Once highly sought after for their fur, today only about 3,500 snow leopards remain in the wild worldwide. The critically endangered species is typically found among the mountains of China, Afghanistan, India, and Nepal.
