Elvington 2 - 5 Hensall Hawks 7 wins on the bounce now for the hawks!! Not the best display Ive seen us play, probably the worst for a couple of weeks, the team looked tired and sluggish and the scoreline of 3-0 flattered us after the first quarter. Weve set the bar extremely high and every week now we all expect a quality standard of football and we didnt quite hit top gear today. Elvington were a strong side, physically tough and hit fast on the counter. We had a lot of players tiring quickly during the game due to the fast tempo of the game and subs were made throughout the game to keep them all fresh. Some poor work rate in midfield aloud elvington the chance to get back in the game with 2 goals. It couldve been worse was it not for some incredible stops in goal for Ethan and great defending from calum, Carter, Mathew and will maith all putting a shift in at the back with little protection from midfield. Just as elvington looked most dangerous hensall hit them back with 2 goals from Zach and Albert to put the game to bed. We made hard work of the game today with a little bit of bickering on field, a lot of poor passes and a lot of good runs and dribbles with no end product. After the match we looked like a team that had lost and thats because we know how good we are and today we just had an off day and next week well fight back to our high standards. Having said all that there were some good performances in there in parts and will gammage continues to improve as does Mathew, you can see a big difference every match as they grow in confidence. Also great performances from the defensive line this week saving the team on numerous occassions. We had a bit of chat earlier with the kids how much of a privilege it is to play for the hawks and to be involved with such an incredible team. Weve got a lot of kids wanting to join and were turning them away and our kids need to appreciate the great position they are in. This means playing in positions they might not prefer or not questioning any of the coaches decisions amongst other things. Last week Charlie Kirk was awarded man of the match for playing in literally every position on the pitch and giving 100% in every single one. This week I awarded man of the match to will maith for his industrious display in defence. Not his preferred position but it didnt stop him giving his all and put a lot of hard work in as well as getting his head up and picking out some passes which weve been working really hard in training on and its nice to see him really progress over the last few weeks. Little update on league goals and assists so far as well, Goals top 3 Elliot - 17 Albert - 15 Zach - 8 Assists top 3 Albert - 17 Elliot - 5 Charlie - 5 Next week we have cup games against ulleskelf and north duffield I believe and Ill see you all at training on Thursday.
