Elvis is back in the house... (in some sections) on the Upper Owens. The conditions have improved rapidly as this heat wave & high pressure built quickly. Six degrees to start the day; but it warmed early & it was jackets off by noon, & mid fifties when we got off the water. Water remains off color-worse below Hot Creek, but the fish did not care. Most of the sheet ice came off today and I actually saw some midges hatch. Michael DelPero hit this big male for his first Crowley Steelhead of the year. His buddy Nate Foreman tight to one of his rainbows. There is a huge Golden Eagle that is living and hunting here. Beautiful bird-thing is gigantic! Russ Hing spanked them again with Two Bug Doug. Fish remain in the deeper/softer pools. Nymphing with attractors is the best way to get these sedentary fish hit. We are looking at a warming trend with the continuation of no precipitation in the forecast :( Middle Owens also fishing well today. Doug R. got Paul Riley into some nice browns on his drift. Joe Contaldi put William & Jo-Jo Chen on a bunch of rainbows and browns around the wild trout section. Fish are taking mayfly and midge patterns here. be the fly...tom Website fish report, fly sales, & trip requests/gift certs at: sierradrifters/ You can purchase my flies locally at Reagans Sports in Bishop, The Crowley General Store (across from the lake). In So-Cal get them at Strouds Tackle in San Diego, or Malibu Fishn Tackle in Thousand Oaks.
