Email from Harpenden Society to Councillor David Williams David - TopicsExpress

Email from Harpenden Society to Councillor David Williams David – thank you for the All Saints meeting on Sunday and your efforts to allay the anxieties of local people – although, truth to tell, when it comes to the advent of a new secondary school in the town, we are all ‘local’ people. Officers of The Harpenden Society are attempting, in the press and elsewhere, to lend support to this significant proposal. We understand that ‘suitability’ of site involves readier availability against a rational time-scale as well as the more overt geographic aspects. We appreciate the need to deal with the intricacies of government dictates in respect of new schools. We are acutely aware that, in Harpenden, any development anywhere is going to raise traffic problems. Our charity remit enjoins us to judge according to what might benefit Harpenden, as a whole, today and, importantly, tomorrow. On that criterion there can be no doubt that a new secondary school would be a fine asset to our community. Thus we are grateful to you and fellow-councillors and lend what encouragement we are able to your sterling endeavours.
