Email from John Lauritsen about Joep Lange (I have permission to cross post): The U.S. media were sobbing over the death of Joep Lange. Heres what I [John Lauritsen] wrote about him in 1992: [About the alternate AIDS conference held in Amsterdam in mid-May 1992. From Chapter XXX: AIDS Criticism in Europe in the 1993 book, _The AIDS War_ by John Lauritsen. pp. 406-7] In the panel on non-toxic therapies, an Amsterdam physician, Joep Lange, maintained that AZT was beneficial, and that the AZT studies were good research. When other members of the panel attempted to confront him on these assertions, the chair intervened to silence them. This outraged a number of members of the audience. One man said that he had not come all the way from Argentina to hear AZT promoted on a panel about non-toxic therapies. Why cant we have an impartial chair?, he demanded. The next day Lange and I were scheduled to appear together on a panel on pharmaceutical research and AIDS. I came prepared for a confrontation, but Lange failed to show up. That evening on Dutch television Lange denounced Peter Duesberg as a lunatic. It was not an accusation he had dared to make at the confer- ence.
