Email from Ms. Friend. If you did not receive it please call the school to be put on the email list : Hello, Parents, While I rarely use the parent email option, there is just so much of note this week that I want to make sure to take appropriate time and space to offer you this information. Highlights include our first homecoming, the reinstatement of after school detention, a mild complaint about dress code and what I hope is some useful information about Team CFA/ The Challenge Foundation and just how Piedmont Community Charter School benefits from our partnership with them. 1. Homecoming Week, our first ever, will be January 26th through the 29th. This event is sponsored by the PCCS Student Council and promises a weeks worth of fun and activities, including scavenger hunts, dodgeball tournaments, and even a king and queen. Please access this link for information about each days events, including the theme for the day, related dress, and special activities. For example, tomorrows theme is Winter Wonderland and students are encouraged to wear blue and white with jeans. Of note, while most of the activities are 6-12th grade, the dance scheduled for Saturday night is high school students only. Please contact Jennifer Nelson at [email protected] should you have questions or wish to volunteer to help. 2. ASD is back! As many of you know, we started the year using a morning detention model in an effort to minimize the number of students on campus in the afternoons. After a semesters worth of evidence, it is clear that our school is better served with an afternoon detention, so were putting ASD back into action beginning Monday, January 26th. ASD will run 2:45pm until 3:30pm each day and, as before, you will be notified in advanced should your student be assigned ASD. 3. Dress code and traffic -- Half way through the school year I continue to ask for your cooperation with the expectations of dress code and traffic flow. In this second semester, I would ask that we all get on the same page (which means shes worn that before just wont cut it.)....please follow the traffic pattern to ensure that students and staff are safe in the parking lot, and please ensure that your student is in dress code when you drop him/her off in the morning. Much thanks for your anticipated help. 4. Finally, a word about the Challenge Foundation. At last weeks board meeting, someone raised the question of the value of this foundation to PCCS; essentially, what does the Challenge Foundation do for us? I think this is an excellent question, and a revealing one. While those of us who work at the school are very aware of the benefits of being a Challenge Foundation Academy, it may not be as obvious to parents or even board members. To that end, this link (click on PCCS is Connected) will take to you a list of the many ways that the Challenge Foundation supports Piedmont Charter. I hope you will call me at 704-349-4642 should you have questions about any of this content. We thank you for choosing Piedmont Community Charter School for your student, and well see you in the morning. Becky Friend
