Email response from minority leader. Dear Ben, Thank you for writing to me with your views on Senate Bill 284 which deals with the legalization of medical marijuana. SB 284 would establish a medical marijuana program, and allow for caregivers and patients, who have received a recommendation from a physcian to obtain marijuana for medical treatment. Senate Bill 284 also creates the Department of Marijuana Enforcement (DOME) and a DOME advisory committee that will review the program and consider committee recommendations. SB 284 would authorize DOME to grant research liscenses to research facilities in Indiana. The bill has been assigned to the committee on Health and Provider Services where it is awaiting a hearing. SB 284 respects the physician/patient relationship and allows an additional treatment option to be considered. I believe SB 284 offers Hoosiers a viable and responsible health care option.
