Informational Briefing Material for 07-13 through 07-14 Severe Thunderstorm and Heavy Rain Potential Issued by National Weather Service – Charleston, WV 07/13/14 at 07 AM Overview: An cold front approaching from the northwest will bring strong, heavy thunderstorms to the area late today through Monday. Strong thunderstorms could bring damaging wind gusts to the Middle Ohio from mid afternoon through this evening, with strong thunderstorm wind gusts reaching into the Central Appalachians and northeast Kentucky overnight tonight. Locally heavy rainfall is possible from any of these thunderstorms, especially if they train over the same area. This could occur tonight from southeast Ohio, northeast Kentucky into central West Virginia, but these locations could vary. On Monday into Monday night, the severe and heavy rainfall threat focuses over central and southern West Virginia, northeast Kentucky and southwest Virginia. Much cooler weather will follow this system during midweek. Confidence level is high and has been consistent. Expected Conditions and Impacts: · * Wind gusts to 60 mph could cause tree and property damage along with personal injury. * Rainfall of an inch in 45 min or less could cause ponding on roads localized flooding. * Total rainfall up to two inches, locally even higher could cause localized flooding and small stream rises. * Hail up to an inch in diameter could cause minor property damage.
