Embrace Discipline 3“For bodily exercise profiteth little, but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of life that now is, and of that which is to come.” 1 Timothy 4:8KJVPhysical training is of some value but godliness has value for everything. The benefit of godliness far exceeds what physical training will do for you. If you are only interested in looking fit and you are spiritually starved, you open yourself for the enemy. A disciplined life will not only bless you for your lifetime, it will bless you for eternity. So it is vitally important that you make up your mind to be disciplined to stay in the word. And not only that, stay in prayers. If you have made up your mind, you can start with 10minutes, 20 minutes or 30 minutes and gradually you graduate. When you develop faithfulness with little, you get to do more. How can you be an effective Christian without talking to God? Don’t expect God to suddenly slam your request on you if you are not setting time apart to talk with him. God doesn’t just want your works; He wants your fellowship. Discipline yourself to stay in fellowship with Him in the place of prayer. The Lord knows what you need but He still says “ask”. Now don’t stop at praying. In Matthew 7:16 KJV, Jesus said, “when ye fast...” not “if ye fast”. That scripture is suggesting that there is a time to fast, like the time we are in now. You don’t fast just when there is a call for national fast or a church fast, you must discipline yourself to fast on your own. Make up your mind to fast maybe once a week. It may not be convenient but discipline yourself to do it; so that you can be spiritually alert. Make it your lifestyle to fast regularly. Learn to push back the plate, shut down the Internet and switch off your telephone and seek the face of God. Jesus said in Matthew 17:21 “Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting”.Furthermore, discipline yourself to praise and worship God not just in church but also privately. Our worship corporately is very wonderful but there is a blessing you receive by worshipping by yourself. Give yourself wholly to these things because they are spiritual ingredients that energize your spiritual life. Today I release upon you the grace to employ discipline and obtain victory in the place of personal prayer, fasting, praise and worship.Further reading: Psalm 27:1-5, 2 Timothy 2:10 - 16.Daily Bible Reading: Morning: Isaiah 32-33; Evening Colossians 10
