Embracing the Holy Spirit Galatians 5:25-26 “Since this is the kind of life we have chosen, the life of the Spirit, let us make sure that we do not just hold it as an idea in our heads or a sentiment in our hearts, but work out its implications in every detail of our lives. That means we will not compare ourselves with each other as if one of us were better and another worse. We have far more interesting things to do with our lives. Each of us is an original” Galatians 5:25-26 (MSG). This passage is at the very heart of living life as a follower of Christ. You see, it isn’t good enough to know the truth or even to feel the truth deep in our hearts, we must allow the truth to change our lives, to grow roots so deep in our soul that it becomes a part of who we are—permanently transforming our lives into lives that reflect the very character of God. This transformation will change both the way we view ourselves and the way we view others; it will give us a whole new way of looking at the world. You see, when we have the Spirit of God working in and through our lives, we have no choice but to begin to see life differently—to see it through God’s eyes. We will no longer look to the left or to the right, wondering what our neighbor is doing. Instead, we will have our eyes so focused on God, on walking down the amazing path He has planned for us, that we will cease to be concerned about keeping up with the Joneses—about being better than our neighbor. Our lives will be so deeply impacted by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit that we will stop comparing “ourselves with each other as if one of us were better and another worse.” We will come to realize that “we have far more interesting things to do with our lives.” We will finally embrace the fact that God made each of us to be an original. ~Randy & Trena Reed
