Embu Governor Martin Wambora on Tuesday paid the county assembly - TopicsExpress

Embu Governor Martin Wambora on Tuesday paid the county assembly an unexpected visit as a motion to remove him was about to be tabled. He held a meeting with speaker Justus Mate for several hours. Wambora said they “discussed issues pertaining to the welfare of the county”. He said they cannot disclose what was discussed regarding the impending impeachment. “We were consulting on issues concerning the county,” said Wambora. On April 16, when Wambora was reinstated as governor, the assembly moved a motion to impeach him. Despite the meeting between Mate and Wambora, deputy speaker Ibrahim Swaleh moved the notice of motion at around 2.45pm. The motion was signed by 21 MCAs. Speaking in the assembly, Mate said they will give Wambora audience. Efforts by Kieni South ward representative Robert Ireri to stop the motion were futile. Mate said the right procedure of giving the notice of motion had been followed. He said more than a third of the members support Wambora’s impeachment. Wambora’s removal is based on the grounds that he violated the Public Procurement and Financial Management Act. After Wambora’s reinstatement, the MCAs said they were concerned that corruption and lack of integrity, which led to Wambora’s impeachment, had not been addressed by the court’s verdict. They said the integrity of the ruling is questionable. Wambora was reinstated by justices Cecilia Githua, Hedwig Ong’udi and Boaz Olao in a ruling passed at the Kerugoya court last Wednesday. #star
