Embu to empower women in the county Embu Government is looking to partner with Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organization (MYWKO) to empower women in the county. Governor Martin Nyaga Wambora has said that his government would adopt the Chinese model of incorporating women in the developmental activities in the county. He added that this is one of the key areas to fast track the countys vision of equal opportunities for all. He noted that the women would have significant contribution in areas such as economic, social and political leadership. “My county government will secure 30% of all procurement tenders and help women to form a SACCO to uplift their living standard,” Governor Wambora said in a meeting with MYWO Embu leaders in his office. Governor Wambora also promised to set more funds for women in the next financial year in the Gender ministry in order to protects the rights of the marginalized groups such as women, youth and people with disabilities. He said that his government would support capacity building workshops targeting women in order to equip them with skills to achieve their developmental goals. He also urged the women to actively fight Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) practice across the county. Maendeleo ya Wanawake chairlady Mary Kavinda noted that there was a need for the county government to recognize great work that women can and are doing for the county. She hailed the county government for supporting women in the county to uplift their living standards. Kavinda also urged the county government to offer training workshops for them to grow economically, socially and politically.
