Emergency Management Fire & Rescue Levy The volunteer - TopicsExpress

Emergency Management Fire & Rescue Levy The volunteer fire-fighters who comprise the Senior Executive Management (SEM) of the RFBAQ met on Saturday, 15th June to discuss the ramifications of the Queensland State Budget on the Rural Fire Brigades who defend 93% of Queensland. Prior to the budget being brought down, the RFBAQ contacted the Office of the Treasurer and the Office of Police and Community Safety requesting information relating to the proposed Emergency Management Fire and Rescue Levy. The office of the Treasurer and Minister for Trade informed the RFBAQ that none of the new levy will go to funding local volunteer Rural Fire Brigades as that is an arrangement between Local Government and the local Rural Fire Brigade under the Local Government Act. The request for information from Office of Police and Community Safety remains unanswered. The resolution of the SEM is to immediately approach the Queensland State Government and the Department of Community Safety requesting a full briefing in relation to the proposed Emergency Management Fire & Rescue Levy. The RFBAQ will also approach key stakeholders such as AgForce, LGAQ and Cane Growers with the goal of ensuring that the brigades receive adequate funding to maintain their capacity in defending the 93% of Queensland that Rural Fire Brigades protect.
