Emergency mission for today: A concerned citizen that was walking heard a kitten crying in the drain on the new By-Pass in Christiansted She stopped and was trying to reach in to grab it but couldnt reach. A couple driving past saw the Lady and pulled over to help her get the kitten out, they called the fire department, fire department called us and Moises Carmona reached shortly after. They tried several tactics to get the kitten out, even pushing some water down the drain to wash her out but nothing worked. The fire department had to leave so they left moises with a flach light and some gloves. The couple who pulled over went home and changed their clothes and returned,the brave husband went in to the man hole to try and chase it to Moises who was entering the other man hole a little way down. But by the time he squeezed in to the hole the kitten had already ran past. Moises then called and got another staff member to come out and go in to the other man hole 20 feet away and crawl through the water filled tunnel towards him. FINALLY! we caught the little orange tabby, She was very frighted and a little nippy but Warrior, named by the citizens who called for help, was safe. Special thank you to the Fire department (Richmond), and those special people who decided to take time out their day and rescue this kitten. The Shelter does much more than what people think, sometimes risking our own lives for the critters who are in danger. We do it not because its our job, but because we Care.
