Emergency service crews are at the scene of a fire at the old showgrounds this afternoon. It’s believed the old pavilion near the Burrum Street entrance caught alight around 3.20pm. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services - QFES, Queensland Police Service and Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) crews responded immediately. Firefighters are still working to bring the blaze under control, however, it’s believed that the pavilion has been completely destroyed. Smoke from the fire has also forced the closure of Queensland Rail services, with electricity cut to overhead powerlines in the area. The Mayor and Councils CEO are on the scene. Please avoid the area where possible.
