Emergency services are at the scene of a building fire in Lidcombe. About 3.15pm (Saturday 18 October 2014), police were called to Bridge Street where they found the building of a restaurant well alight. The restaurant and surrounding buildings have been evacuated as Fire & Rescue NSW officers attempt to extinguish the blaze. There have been no reports of injuries. Motorists and members of the public are urged to avoid the area where possible and police and forensic officers will examine the scene once the fire is extinguished, to help determine the cause of the blaze. The operation is expected to last a number of hours, with Bridge Street to be closed until tomorrow morning (19 October 2014).
