Emiliana “Melly” Friel Melly Friel, age 85, of Westlake Village, Calif., passed away on July 11, 2013. Born September 16, 1927 in Baguio City, Philippines, Melly has been a 43 year resident of Ventura County. Melly was the Owner/Operator of her own licensed daycare for over 30 years. She was an avid cook and gardener extraordinaire. There was no one that crossed her path that didn’t benefit from either skill. As original owner of her home in Foxmoor Hills, Melly ensured each new family was welcomed into the neighborhood offering whatever they needed settling in and through out. A charter member of The United Methodist Church of Westlake Village, Melly provided thousands of hours of care in the church nursery for infants and babies, managed the acolyte program for several years and participated in what is now known as the Church’s Hospitality Committee. Melly is survived by husband, Leroy J. Friel; daughter, Tina Friel; son, David Friel; grandsons, Michael Roberts, David McGlothlin, Travis Friel, Jesse Friel; granddaughters Teresa McGlothlin, Sierra Friel and 8 great grandchildren. Our heartfelt thanks go to Rosario “Charo” Ruiz and Mary & Harry Swartz for the committed care they afforded Melly the last year and a half of her life. A Life Celebration will be held on Thursday, July 18, at 3 p.m. at The United Methodist Church of Westlake Village located on the corner of Westlake Blvd. and Hampshire Rd. in Westlake immediately followed by a reception in the Alton Fellowship Hall.
