Emily was rushed back to the hospital at 5AM this morning. They are not exactly sure why she is experiencing head pain and backpain so quickly after the lumbar puncture from last night. Generally, it would not be unusual to see this between 24 and 48 hours. This happened in less than 12. Chicago is ordering a CSF drain study to be done there in the next couple of weeks. While we are relieved that we might be looking at a permanent solution, trying to manage while one of us is in Chicago with a sick child is always challenging. However, both Scott and I feel we cant make Emily wait any longer. After the drain study there will be a short recovery period and then we will have to go back to Chicago to have the actual shunt put in. Both of these trips to Chicago will be a week or longer and both are very challenging for the patient. In the end, Emily should have a more manageable solution than the roller coaster she has been on the past two years.
