Emirates halts Clark-Dubai flights ABS-CBNnews Posted at 03/24/2014 5:03 PM | Updated as of 03/24/2014 5:03 PM MANILA, Philippines - Emirates Airlines will stop direct flights from Clark International Airport in Pampanga to Dubai starting May 1. The announcement comes barely seven months after Emirates started the Clark-Dubai flights last October 1. Emirates decision to halt the daily flights from Clark is mainly due to low load factor and intense competition among airlines. Victor Jose Luciano, president and chief executive officer of Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC), confirmed that Emirates was stopping its Clark-Dubai flights due to stiff competition among airlines. Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific also have direct flights to Dubai. Also, Luciano said another reason for Emirates decision was the controversial excise tax imposed by the Bureau of International Revenue on jet fuel for international flights. Emirates, in a statement, said: The decision was made after a review of the airline’s operations to ensure the best utilisation of its aircraft fleet for its overall business objectives. Emirates said it will still continue to operate its three daily, non-stop flights between Manila and Dubai. (Emirates) is taking all necessary steps to accommodate affected passengers on alternate flights, it said. Last Ocober, the airline had expressed confidence in attracting OFWs from northern and central Luzon, and tourists from the Middle East. Emirates is the second airline that suspended operations at Clark. Last year, Philippines AirAsia halted flights from Clark, and moved operations to NAIA 4.
