Emma Anderson 13 hrs Just wondering. As the current Government - TopicsExpress

Emma Anderson 13 hrs Just wondering. As the current Government system is illegitimate, the laws are too. So we revert to tribal lore/law until a treaty exists and any other laws ratified as required. But as that hasnt happened, doesnt that mean even as a non FN person Im supposed to follow tribal law too? If so what is it and what citizens rights do I have? I was born here so under most laws that makes me natural citizen but I havent been initiated! Very confusing. I have a visa from APG but I cant help but think at bare minimum permanent residency permit makes more sense....I have no other land to return to for starters.....or any allegiance to other lands (except my citizen of earth stuff we all have). Deni Langman Emma, I think this is a good question..... . THe only thing I am able to say here is that First Nations People have never been in a situation, where Balanda People wanted to join their mob. Seems to me that if you want to join a mob and be seen as First Nation, you would be obliged to accept our Law/Lore, and undergo an initiation for girls/women. Including the not so nice bits as well, within the Law/Lore THis Australia might reverse back into our Sovereign Country and if so it would come completely under our Ancient Law/Lore, for everyone. But I think that might not happen completely. Even though our Law is just and never changes and is very strict. What we want is respect and recognition as our own People and resume our own Self Determination idea for us. Democracy would naturally prevail, as it always did and everyone would respect that just as before. We want to move forward but also have our respect renewed and honoured. As noticed last night on NITV programme about a discussion on Sovereignty, there are a few First Nations People who may choose to be assimilated into the white society, and the overall feeling was if these young people want to live in the white society then it is their choice. The issue was left at that. In our way of life people are not forced to do something against their will. We look upon it as unfortunate but it is left up to the individual. We are only wanting to live our lives as traditional people in our own way and the freedom to educate our children in our own way so they know where they came from and know their Law/Lore, and to learn the stories of our people. If you had an initiation into a Tribal Nation then you would be expected to follow that Nations Law/Lore. But if not, you will not be obliged to follow it, but still be allowed to go to the Tribal Lands and spend time learning from the Elders of that Nation. You would be seen as a good friend but not one of the family (mob). I read a book of a guy who helped kids on Yuundumu, rehabilitate from petrol sniffing.......He spent over the expected year long visit to stay some several years on the Community. He loved the Community and they loved him and he learned their ways which gave him standing as a good man, in the Community. He got the kids off of sniffing, and he learned a lot from the Community people/ Elders. They suggested to him that he undergo an initiation ceremony to become one of them......He eventually refused the initiation as he would have to, live permanently on the Community but his wife didnt want to move there as she said he had lost contact with his daughter who didnt see her dad for 7 yrs because he was doing the petrol sniffing project on Yuundumu. He gave this fact a lot of thought. He also thought how much he loved his work there and the People. He decided to return to his family for 7 Yrs or, 10 yrs , and introduce his daughter to the Community and People he loved so much and he hoped his daughter will join him later in years and work with him to help the Community and children. He was sad when he left the Community but he didnt close the door.....The Elders always left the door open for him because they considered him one of theirs..... I hope when he returns his daughter and wife will be with him , but we can only know when he writes another book letting us know. So you can find ways that are accepted by all..... Like that guy, he was truthful and honest and a solution was found for everyone concerned. Our People understand feelings and are willing to find solutions as needed. This is not accepted by the Government because they are stubborn and thick headed. We are very reasonable people and help when needed. But we do not give up our life style or ways of life and that is exactly what we want now, but I feel the Government will look upon our Sovereignty as a revolution and misunderstand it all. But for you I hope you understand what will probabely happen in the long run and that this story answers your query. AUNTIE DENI.
