Emma Fitzgerald (Braintree MA) won the javelin at the North and Central America Area trials meet for the World Youth Olympics held April 4-5 in Miramar, Florida. The Thayer Academy sophomore threw the 500 gram youth javelin a personal best 1682 (51.25m) to top the field by 10 feet. The 2nd World Youth Athletics will be held August 16-28 in Nanjing, China. The meet is for athletes not turning 18 during the calendar year, and has a 16 competitor limit in each event with no more than one entry per country. There are also quotas on the number of competitors from the several global areas and the USA may have only 14 athletes total.
