Emma Hill, this post is for you! On Friday I was very lucky to stumble on this cicada clinging to a wool grass stem in a swamp. I took a few pictures and then on a whim slowly crept in close and tried to grab it. To my surprise, it never moved and wound up easily in my hand. Once I was holding it, it was not happy. It just kept buzzing. I took a few quick pictures and then as soon as I opened my hand, it flew off at a high speed into the woods. Im guessing this is the Dog-day Cicada (Tibicen canicularis).
