Emmanuel Ogebe wrote I had an iPhone that packed up. We tried the 9ja connection. One of my townsmen is married to a Yankee lady who works for Apple. She worked on it and sent it back but it still refused to function. Out of desperation, I had to do it American style - I went to the Apple store myself. They tried and tried. They told me it was a lost cause. Finally I attempted the ultimate desperado moves - I took it to Nigeria. My guy at Banex plaza who unlocks phones couldnt do it. Then someone said I should try this lady at EMAB plaza. I sent it. She sent a message back that she could fix it for about $30. I thought she was kidding. This lady who was due to have a baby any moment now could do what Steve Jobs boys couldnt do? Long story short, that iPhone is working now. Earlier this month I went to EMAB plaza and met her myself for the first time. There is no time I go to Nigeria that we dont need to go there to repair one thing or buy another thing. EMAB and Barnex Plazas are a monument to Nigerian industry and ingenuity. And they are for the masses. They are not like Cedi Plaza or Silverbird which are pretentious and overpriced monuments to corruption and conspicuous consumption. This is why the bombing of EMAB Plaza is a strike at the core of life in Abuja. Today I pay tribute to those whose personal industriousness tries to make Nigeria work and I denounce those whose primitive ideology strives to make Nigeria fail. BTW I have confirmed that my female phone tech support guru and her baby survived Boko Harams attack
