Emmitt Smith Rips Cowboys, Jason Garrett: They Have ‘No Identity’For any sports fan sentient in the 90s, mentioning the Dallas Cowboys will forever conjure images of Emmitt Smith gashing defenses en route to the NFL all-time rushing record. Smith, along with quarterback Troy Aikman and receiver Michael Irvin, symbolizes the golden era of the franchise that yielded three Super Bowl rings. Those days are long gone, something Smith readily admits. He stopped by HuffPost Live on Wednesday to talk football and had harsh words for the current Cowboys team and organization. Theres no identity for the Dallas Cowboys as far as Im concerned, Smith told host Marc Lamont Hill. Theres no balance there. Are we doing enough to help our beleaguered defense? ... I see us having a struggle this season. From 1993 to 1999, Smith played with Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett, who was a backup quarterback for most of his time in uniform. Smith admits his friend hasnt been up to snuff as a head coach thus far. 8-8 doesnt say so, Smith said of Garrett, who has finished with a .500 record in each of his three full seasons as head coach. Well see how things shape out this year. I love Jason Garrett. I played with him. I know hes a smart guy.
