Emotional status time..... Ive been doing Muay Thai for 30 years now Having being bullied at school, my mate who was Thai, had a cousin come over from Thailand who was a fighter. We used to train with him once a week at the YMCA in Guildford. In that time I learnt how to kick apples off swords and kick through wooden boards and lots of other useless stuff! I then found Mick Murphy at Woking Thai when I was 17. The rest they say is history. This man was someone so special to every single kid that walked through the door. He would help everyone, push people to the best of their potential. He changed me as a man, gave me values and belief. I have never in all my years heard anyone say a bad word about him. I always wanted to be as successful as Mick. When I started my own gym 8 years ago, it was the hardest thing I have ever done. Not because of the money or the stress, but because I was so intent on making Mick proud, that I wanted to carry on the legacy of Woking Thai in my own way as Shin Kick. To this day, we are good friends, and I will always still have a part of Woking Thai with in me. The reason for this status, is more to understand that we all started somewhere, and certain people will have a bigger influence than others. To not forget your beginnings and to realise that no matter how big you may think you are, there is always someone that can humble you. I can only dream that one day, people that I have trained will have the same feelings about me, as I do about Mick. If that ever is the case, then only then, will I feel that I have succeeded ;)
