Employees from a book publishing company in Northamptonshire have raised £100,000 after just over a year of charity activities. Igloo Books, based at Sywell, handed over a cheque to Children With Cancer UK this week at the end of a fund-raising campaign that has included all of its 100-strong workforce. Events ranged from cake bakes in the office, to staging a fete in Sywell and 17 staff doing the Three Peaks Challenge. But the biggest event featured cycling from Paris to Calais, rowing across the Channel, then running to the capital in time to join the London Marathon. This epic effort involved 17 people and raised £50,000 alone. Co-edition sales director Dean Cornish said: “It took a little cajoling of staff at first, but they realised we wanted to earn money for a good cause and it was a good way of getting fit too.” Previously, the firm – which publishes a range of books, but with much of its sales in the children’s sector – raised £50,000 for the Prince’s Trust. And Mr Cornish added: “This time we aimed for £75,000, so to reach £100,000 beat all our expectations. Everyone involved and it was a great company effort. Cancer affects so many people and Children With Cancer UK is a really good cause. As a charity they were very impressive and supportive.”
