Employers really need to stop discriminating against age. They do it all the time because someone who is 40, 50, 60 is highly likely to tell you that youre full of it to your face. The older worker gets that a balance between work and play, job and family, is crucial to a happy employee. We know how to work smart not hard. We do the job, and then most of us want you to leave us alone, until you give us another task. Employers also need to stop the prejudice for huge chunks of time between jobs. Many of us have run our own businesses, raised families, cared for aging parents or been self-employed for decades. There is a huge age bias in this country in almost all areas of business but none so cruel as Fine Arts. It is why I wont watch or support American Idol. Since when does youth equate talent? Technology is another area where often youth with a degree gets the nod. Who cares if you have a MA, or MS in Computers? Can you fix mine? Id much rather turn to the guy or gal whos slogged their way from DOS on up.
