Employers when you hire a top-flight sales management professional who knows their stuff ( Ultimately why you are hiring them in the first place, to make a "significant" change ); Please do not assume that you somehow have the right to move the bar in regards to performance based-pay( % of Commissions/Bonus ) after hiring them because you have suddenly "..done the math"( after they close everything you have put in front of them ) and suddenly realize that they "..are going to cost us significantly more than we are prepared to pay within the current pay structure.."( when the structure "..was based in past performance and historical averages.." ). " ..while we recognize your outstanding personal performance and coaching the sales team to an unparallelled standard, proven by the teams numbers since your employ; we are not prepared in regards to accountancy procedures to pay you the originally agreed upon###% per personal sale and ###% of all Team Sales..and are needing to renegotiate your pay structure due to our A/R schedule.." "This is never an easy conversation to have, however it is one where we are quite sure that we can meet at a mutually advantageous solution.." Really? In an email? You think so, huh? OOPS! Okay here is where the Gowie gets off. You have already obligated your organization to do so in contract negotiations and this is how you attracted me to your business in the first place. Do not assume that I am a cheerleader for your business anymore than you are for your utility company. This is sales. Not a mom and pop bakery or haberdashery. My math was good at the time that the offer was extended, that is why I said yes in the first place. I was there performing a service for pay, pay agreed upon on the date of hire. You reneged and this is how you lost me. Any executive worth their weight in salt will tell you that ultimately a professional salesperson especially a quality sales manager will pay for themselves.
